Researchers find clue to male infertility

A study led by Dr. Amy Johnson, a postdoctoral research associate working under the direction of institute director Dr. Steven Zeisel, has found that a genetic variant, called a single nucleotide polymorphism or SNP, is associated with human sperm motility. Between 5 percent and 10 percent of men are affected by this variant.
The SNP commonly occurs within the gene for human choline dehyrdogenase and can influence the amount of choline someone needs to eat. Choline, a nutrient used to form cell membranes, is found in eggs, meats and wheat germ, among other foods.

He was born Oct 28, 1893 at Marcelene, MO, the son of John F. (John T.) and Martha Gilpin. Mr Gilpin was a machinist by trade and a veteran of World War I and a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Marth J. Hunt, Birmingham, Mich; a brother Ernest Gilpin, Fort Scott, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Earl's Memorial Home, Rev. A. F. Sometime between the age of 16 when she left home and the age of 19 when she married our father: Mom was hired by Hallmark cards as an artist, but quit after one week; they had put her into a room by herself and she couldn't think of anything to draw.
She also auditioned for a chorus line.. Mom was so flat chested she wanting to make a good impression stuffed her bra with tissue and while she was dancing the tissue came flying out, She didn't get the job..
Going back in time to when Mom was in school She was accepted and attended the first school in Oklahoma for advanced studies. It was called a class for gifted students. Education: High School, Some college courses

1959/1960 She was president of the Grays Harbor (Washington State) Chapter of young Democrats. She met John F. and Jacky Kennedy, while he was in Washington state campaining.
She moved to San Jose, CA in about 1960 where she worked at Hewlett- Packard Company doing final engraving on instruments. She bought a house in San Jose, CA, where she lived until about 1971. Mother then became to ill to work and moved to McCleary, WA. During 1971/1972 sometime she took a trip to Spain with the funds from the sale of her home. She took her sister Helen Murray with her.

Lolita and I recieved an email from brother John that Janie had died  no real explanations. I called Cousin Peggy (Dad's sister's daughter) and was told: They were found dead the week before Thanksgiving in the bathroom of their house. She was on the toilet he was kneeling beside her.     Supposed father - Gene Amrin: Met Jean while living in Westport, Washingtn. We dated for several months during the late summer and fall of 1960. Gene/Jean worked as a sheet metal bender on the digestion tanks at Raineer Pulp Mill in Hoquiam, Washington. He lived in I think it was Aberdeen, WA. Being young and foolish I never knew much about him. I believe he was 26, but he thought I was 18. (I was 15.) He was also blond hair and blue eyed.
    
    That's about all I can tell my son.
    
    Supposed father - Punky Henderson Hendrickson or spelled with sen? Name unknown for sure. Story : When I lived at Westport Washington, my friend Edith Pringle and I went to Aberdeen and met a friend of hers who was married and had  two or three children, all under four if I remember right, all blond and blue eyed... anyway her husband was a US Armry vet who was returning from Vietnum. he lost his leg (right, I think and above the knee). Anyway a few weeks later while i was working as a waitress at a joint on the docks at Wesport, Washington in walked the husband Punky, they had agured and I gave him a place to sleep the night in the shed behind the house I lived in with my mom...The next morning before going to school I went out and woke him up so he could leave before he got caught there. Things just happened and we had sex.
    
    Since this happened while I was dating Gene, I do not know who is my son's father. I wish I could help him figure it out. I need to know too.

    I met Paul after Robert was born we married with in the month. During the first summer we moved to MO, during this time Robert caught menigitius.. Robert got well and we moved back to Renton, WA. My Mother who had been in Seattle with me during my pregnancy, had moved to CA. I moved there when I left Paul. I lived with my mother after Paul and I seperated. I found out a few months later that I was PG and told Paul about it, he came to San Jose to see me, and  asked me to come back I said no. He divorced me

Nelliena, was born in a hospital in Olympia, Washington. I had gone in for an amniocentese test. The results were so bad they started induction Immediatly. Nelliena had seven complete blood tranfusions. She didn't leave the hospital for several months. But she had been given a clean bill of health and died with in one or two months of comming home, from SIDDS.  she was in her bassnet beside our bed, when I woke up, and took her out of her bed, she was still warm. I tried resussition, and closed heart message nothing worked.. This is where Gary and my problems started, we never shared our loss with each other. I had nightmares for years afterwards, and he never knew. I never felt comforted by him and looked to someone else for comfort when he was gone so long at work after we moved to Ontario, Oregon. after being unfaithful I did not feel worthy of Gary and pushed him away from me.. For years I suffered, and became a control freek, wanting everything to be under control, that way, nothing like that could ever happen again.  I still to this day regret how I responded to "Our" loss. It caused a lot of problems latter in life.

**As published in The Fort Scott Tribune, Monday Evening, May 16, 1932 - Obituary - MRS. J. H. GILPIN DEAD. Wife of Frisco Engineer, 1223 South Main, Died At Hospital Sunday. Mrs. Martha Jane Gilpin, wife of John T. Gilpin, well known Frisco engineer of 1223 South Main Street, passed away at Burk Street Mercy hospital Sunday at 1:40 p.m. She had been there about a month suffering from a complication that followed the flu and a nervous breakdown. Mrs. Gilpin lay in a coma, due to encephalitis following influenza. Mrs. Gilpin was an ardent worker in the Baptist church and Women's Union, and was a beloved member of the G.I.A. and S.B.A. Martha Jane Cupp was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marian Cupp, and was born in Chariton county, Missouri, September 21, 1866. She was aged 65 years, 8 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to John Thomas Gilpin in Salisbury, Mo., October 20, 1890. He survives, besides three children; Mrs. Bessie Myers, Fort Scott; John Raymond Gilpin, Detroit, Mich., and Ernest T. Gilpin of Fort Scott; also three grandchildren and the following brother and sisters; James C. Cupp, Marceline, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Allphin, Los Angeles; Mrs. Jennie Elliott, Kansas City, and Mrs. Etta Hook of Seattle, Wash. She had been a resident of Fort Scott for the past thirty years, having come here in 1903 from Chase, Kas. Mr. Gilpin has been an engineer for forty-five years, since 1892, with the Frisco. Mrs. Gilpin was a very conscientious lady, a noble mother and kind neighbor. For many years she belonged to the O.E.S. The funeral will be held from the Baptist church of which she was a member, Tuesday, May 17,at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Leroy Viets. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers selected are William Whortman, Carl Rath, J.C. Gross, E.A. Shaver, Will Brewin, P.N. Hammer, E.P. Magner and Harry Hanes. The body lies in state at the Konantz Mortuary chapel.
