WOW.....From: Ancestry Insider, a pretty good blog about ancestry.com.

The article talks about atDNA testing being offered by ancestry.com. A fantastic price, but it is for members only right now. Do you know what atDNA testing is?
A quick and simple review: 23 chromosome PAIRS (never forget they are pairs), of those you have 22 atDNA (Autosomal Chromosomes - names are numbers chromosome pair One "1" to chromosome pair 22. The twenty-third (23) pair has a different name they are the sex chromosome pair, this pair contains the Y chromosome and X chromosome if your a male and the two X chromosomes if you are a female. You inherit your 22 autosomal pairs from all your ancestors back to when we either walked out of the soup of evolution or the hands of creation. There is a problem with this test, all autosomal chromosomes and the Pair of X chromosomes in the female recombine so as you get further away from the donating ancestor the less chance you have of retaining a genome segment large enough to be considered for comparison.
Two other DNA testing companies FTDNA and 23andme test your atDNA. they use 5cM and above for comparison. Less then that is considered to be a match as Identical by state rather then by Identical by descent.
These charts can help explain (See: http://www.geneticsand.us )
If your a member of Ancestry.com, and considering testing your Autosomal chromosomes (even if they don't provide the raw data for those interested in more detailed information) the price is exceptionally good.
